Facilities
Housed in state-of-the-art facilities at
Conway, South Carolina, NAIA conducts
its pilot and aviation maintenance
training programs at the Conway-Horry County
Airport. The airport has a 4,400 foot
runway with modern, pilot-controlled
lighting and Precision Approach Path
Indicators, served by five instrument
approach procedures.
NAIA also functions as the Fixed Base
Operator for the Conway-Horry County
Airport.
NAIA and the Conway-Horry County
Airport are pleased to announce the $1.1
million, 9 thousand-plus square-foot
training and terminal facility is now
open! Catering to students, public, and
staff alike this center hosts numerous
amenities for all.
Front Entrance
Roadside arrivals enjoy the convenience of a sheltered drop off leading to the main entrance while
flight arrivals have separate public and student 'ramp-side' entrances to facilitate traffic flow. Each entrance
leads to a separate lounge area.
Classrooms
Across the main gallery, double glass doors lead to three classrooms for
ground school, seminars, or study hall. Each classroom is wired with drop-down
screens that extend remotely from the ceiling for computer generated presentations, TV screens for cable,
DVD, or VHS visuals, and a classic oversized dry-erase board.
Flight Instructor's Work Areas
Comfortable furnishings complete the learning experience for both student and instructor. Across the hall from the
classrooms is the flight instructor's hall. Flight instructors each have an individual partitioned work station to
hold their one-on-one pre & post flight briefings or extended sessions with their students.
A joint-use conference room is available for both the school and those needing a private meeting place; this
room is also equipped with all the items available in the classrooms.
Operation Tower
One of the more unique features is
the facility's Unicom Operation Tower.
Even though the airport does not have a
FAA control tower, trained employees
have an exceptional view of all ground
and aerial activity around the terminal
area from this two-story, 360 degree
viewing tower. From here pilots receive
exceptional traffic and airport
advisories as well as more efficient
ground support services. |
